Offline meeting transcription
100% offline meeting transcription & action tracking
Keep your sensitive meetings private. MeetScribe transcribes your recordings locally, right on your computer — zero uploads, zero recurring subscription fees — and then pulls out the action items and decisions, so the transcript turns into follow-up you can actually work.
No account for the core tool. One short speech-model download (about 75 MB) the first time you transcribe — after that, fully offline.
The privacy gap in cloud meeting tools
Most meeting tools work by sending your recording to their servers. That means the conversations where salaries, firings, legal questions, money, and deals get discussed are stored on somebody else's computers, under somebody else's account rules — and you keep paying every month for access to your own history. Stop paying, and that history winds down with the plan.
Local transcription closes that gap by never opening it. The recording stays on your machine, the transcript is a file in a library you own, and nobody at MeetScribe ever sees either one. There is nothing to leak from a server that never received it.
How MeetScribe works locally
-
Record, or drop in a recording
Record from your microphone inside MeetScribe, or drop in an audio or video file — MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, FLAC, WebM. You can also import the transcripts you already have from Fathom, Otter, Fireflies, and Zoom, so your past meetings live in the same library.
-
It transcribes on your computer
A speech model that lives on your machine turns the recording into a structured, searchable transcript. No cloud transcription service, no uploads — the recording never leaves your computer.
-
The follow-up writes itself
MeetScribe pulls out every action item with its owner and due date, plus every decision, and files them in the commitments register described below.
More than a transcript: the commitments register
A transcript tells you what was said. The register tells you what is still owed.
Every confirmed action item from every meeting lands in one list, split the way you actually think about it: what you owe, and what you're waiting on. Every item carries the exact sentence from the meeting as proof, so "I thought you meant next week" has an answer. Nothing is tracked until you confirm it, and only you ever change a status.
Search your whole history
One search box over every meeting in the library — transcribed or imported — with speaker, date, and source filters, instead of hunting app by app.
Overdue and due this week
Dedicated views surface what's late and what's coming up, and due dates can go out to your calendar as a standard .ics file.
Your library, your file
Everything sits in one library on your own computer. Export the whole thing to Markdown or text any time. Delete the file and the data is gone — because it was only ever yours.
See how that compares in practice on the MeetScribe vs Otter page — including where a cloud tool is honestly the better pick.
The honest limits
The speech model doesn't identify who is speaking, so a transcribed recording comes in without speaker labels — a sentence that names a person still gets that person as the owner, but a bare "I will…" stays unassigned rather than guessed at. Accuracy depends on your audio, the same as anywhere: clear recordings in a quiet room do best. Recording and transcription also use two optional packages listed in an included requirements file, plus the free ffmpeg program for non-WAV recordings.
One-time purchase pricing
Your first 5 meetings are free — recorded, transcribed, or imported — so you can run your own meetings through it before you pay anything. After that, the core tool is $29 once: not per month, not per year, yours permanently. There's an optional Pro plan at $9 a month if you want new Fathom meetings to sync into your library on their own; the core tool doesn't need it, and cancelling Pro loses you nothing you've built.
